Texas blues legend Pinetop Perkins passed away today at the age of 97. He gigged right up to the end and even won a Grammy this year, making him the oldest person to ever to so! He will be missed, but as Cody Canada tweeted in reply to our announcement of the news…”he had a GREAT run.” No doubt. Blues are the root of just about all forms of music, definitely including Texas/Red Dirt/Americana. For many years, artists like Pinetop pioneered an artform that is still living on in artists involved with this scene of music like Ray Wylie Hubbard, Lincoln Durham, Uncle Lucius, The Departed, Jason Eady, Adam Hood and many others. See for yourself…RIP Pinetop.
