Meet Dustin Brown. His formal entry into our music scene has been over a decade in the making, but it appears to have finally arrived. Brown began performing in high school, playing biker bars around Waco, near his hometown of Moody, Texas. After graduating, he and his band headed to Austin to make a go of it in a crowded bar scene vying for folks' attention. It wasn't long before the band went their separate ways, leaving Dustin to either pursue a solo career or explore other job opportunities. He chose the latter, becoming an underwater welder on ships in Louisiana. When that gig dried up, he applied his skills to the oilfields, working the two-weeks-on/two-weeks-off schedule familiar to many Texans. During this time, he also embarked on international travels, sprinkled in some degeneracy, and had plenty of downtime, during which he gradually returned to music.
Today we are premiering "Ain't No Love" off his self-titled record that is available March 30th.
Soft, melancholy, but gritty, Brown laments about what could be a host of things, or all the things. A love given up in pursuit of success, the absence of "love" from small dive bar audiences across various Texas towns he's passed through, or perhaps the lack of authenticity in corporate music that occasionally seeps into and ultimately taints what was once something good. Listen, decide and enjoy, then go over to his website or YouTube channel for more.
