Temps are low. Winds are high. Nobody comes down here planning to dress like they’re at Steamboat and freeze their tails off. But the entire lower 48 is under a historic winter weather pattern. Mile 0 has a solution for that.
Collabs warming the soul tonight and making everything better. Magic happens here. Key West is special. Mile 0 Fest is extraordinary and singular.
Steve Earle with Reckless Kelly as his backing band. Tearing through the canon. My Old Friend the Blues. Devil’s Right Hand. Someday. I Ain’t Ever Satisfied. Just about the time it doesn’t seem like it can get any better, Django Walker arrives on stage and they all go in on “Mr. Bojangles.” Steve Earle is a legend. One of the only remaining living ties to the foundation of this music. He burned down the highways with Townes and Guy. He’s been to hell and back and we are blessed he’s still putting his back to the risers and making his stand.
Cody Canada is having the best year of anyone. Joy. Peace. Love. Gratitude. Soul. All on display as Cody and the boys jammed with Mike McClure for the duration of their set. Mac is as big of a legend as Steve. A Red Dirt godfather who has also been to hell and back. As Cody said onstage, there would be no Ragweed, Boland, Stoney, Turnpike or Kaitlin Butts for that matter without Mike McClure. He’s sounding better than he maybe ever has. As does Cody. 2025 is going to be beautiful.
Kaitlin put on a whale of a show. Slayed it from top to bottom. Her live show has become an extension of her brand. Sad yeehaw vibes aren’t just a phrase to describe some of her music, it’s a lifestyle. Her live show has also expanded and become a showstopper due to her hitting it hard on the highways the past year.
The past, present and future of this music scene was onstage tonight at Mile 0. That’s enough to warm the soul no matter the temp or location.
