Shining a Light on the Covers of Shinyribs
Kevin Russell’s Shinyribs project has shone a light on his songwriting prowess with originals full of gulf coastal Austin wit and soul. If anyone out there believes Russell is just a cover trick pony, dig into the catalog of Shinyribs and you’ll find heartbreak, mysticism, social commentary, love and more. His songwriting chops are second to few. Yet, it is the live shows where one will find the most energetic and infectiously fun band in Texas and beyond. The Snoop Dogg cover gained he and The Gourds notoriety, but it is his knack for arranging all manner of songs in a Shinyribs tone that truly sets his new project apart. Here are a collection of a few of Shinyribs’ finest covers captured to YouTube. R&B, Rap, Country, Pop, Soul, Rock. It’s got it all.
It makes sense in the context of the show also. I think he does No Diggity on it’s own, but the rest is during a bit while he is “driving” in a car during “Lake Charles” while changing the radio station.
It’s not ALWAYS a bit during “Lake Charles”…he often does many of these songs by themselves. Cee-Lo is a given during the radio tour. Everything else is a guess. Good times!
Thank you for the good writeup. It in fact was a amusement account it. Look advanced to far added agreeable from you! However, how could we communicate?
