{1980} Western swing musician Paul Howard died at the age of 71. Howard's band, the Arkansas Cotton Pickers, was a fixture on the Grand Ole Opry in the 1940s. The band sometimes contained more than one bass to make up for the lack of drums, which at the time were banned on the Opry stage.
{1984} The movie"Rhinestone" starring Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone premiered.
