{Off The Cuff} Are You Really Listening?

I love music as much as anyone.

I’ll fight you over it if you want some. You probably don’t if I’m guessing. I have references.

Hell, I have a reasonable amount rhythm and sound killer singing in the shower. That being said, I have no business making a record. Maybe just maybe, you have no business too. Just because your mom and girlfriend/wife think you are great doesn’t necessarily make it so. You should probably keep asking around, seek a few real opinions. Please don’t send me records saying you sound like Uncle Lucius. I already know you are full of shit before I open the envelope. I haven’t heard anyone sound like Kevin Galloway, but Kevin Galloway.

Besides all that… try sounding like you first. Influence is great, but we don’t need another Randy Rogers Band. They already handled that just fine and continue to do so. We don’t need another Pat Green. The one we have is pretty salty already.

Quit saturating the market with your shitty band and tunes. Let the cream be the cream. A lot of Texas Music fans despise Nashville Country. I am a fellow despiser. (If that’s not a word I just made it one.) The truth is the shittiest “Texas Country Music” is shittier than a lot of that “Nashville Pop Music” we despise.

How can you scream for change if you’re part of the problem? I’m disappointed at fans for settling. Your settling for shitty tunes is keeping the real artists and game changers in this music scene from taking hold like they should. Are you really listening or are you just taking what you’re fed? I implore you to listen, really listen.

We built this website to give talented artists and fans a family portal to share music and make friends who share a common thread. I find myself asking more and more…

Amen Brother Hogleg. Crap is crap no matter where it comes from. I want to thank y’all for turning me onto Uncle Lucius, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell and countless others. You dont have to shake your ass, sing about how country you are in a pickup with a girl. Give me something honest and real and I’m a happy man. Lets cut the crap in 2014.

I hear ya buddy. Thanks for all that you guys do. The shit is starting to bubble up everywhere. KOKE FM here in Austin, which is supposed to be unique, confuses the hell out of me. It doesn’t compare to KNBT out of New Braunfels. Just caters way to much to the “Texas Country” scene. I like the “Texas Music” umbrella myself because it incorporates Americana, country, rock n roll, soul, blues, whatever. I’ll call a spade a spade: Granger Smith sucks, Aaron Watson lost it a long time ago, and Kevin Fowler is a caricature of himself and a complete joke at this point. Yet these guys are incessantly played and promoted. Whatever. That’s what my iPod and KNBT apps are for I guess. Just amazes me how much crap we have floating around these days, and the amount of people that eat it up.
