• {1897}
  Fred Rose born in Evansville, Illinois. Rose started Acuff-Rose publishing and is credited with having co-written many songs with Hank Williams Sr. Hank was known as more of an idea man whereas Rose was able to put the words to use.
• {1968}
  The Who's drummer, Keith Moon, drives a Lincoln into the pool of a Holiday Inn in Flint, MI. Moon was the first of the rock stars to develop the art of trashing the hotel room. During this same stay he threw a birthday cake in the hotel mgr's face. Combined with his car stunt this caused The Who to be banned for life from all Holiday Inns.
• {1981}
  John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, is sentenced to prison for 20 years to life. Over the next few months, Chapman would claim many times to have been beaten by fellow inmates, some of whom allegedly tried to kill him with items like scissors.
• {2004}
  Randy Rogers Band release their landmark album, Rollercoaster.
